Chapter 6 Chapter 6: “Escaping from Versailles”
Once on the floor, Maurice led the way.
“Not a word, mon ami!!” whispered Maurice. “Follow me” Merlin, simply obeyed. Both secret agents hid behind some trees and waited to the rest of the cats, who arrived soon in small groups, until a full crowd of cats were inside the gardens of Versailles.
“And now, what?” asked Merlin timidly.
“Now, you will find Marie Antoinette’s kittens, and once you have found them, you let us know. Leave the rest to me!” Grinned Maurice.
Merlin did not replied, he simply walked towards the palace.
Versailles was enormous! It was like a gilded labyrinth, full of chandeliers, full of mirrors and full of servants!!
“Where can they be? Where shall I find this cats?” Wondered Merlin while he continued walking not knowing where he was going. “Come on Merlin! Come on!! Use your instinct!!…. which is the favourite place for a cat??? I know!! The kitchen! Sure!! I should follow the smell, the smell of food…”
And guided by the strong smell of baking pudding, Merlin arrive at the kitchen in no time!! And yes! There were five beautiful Turkish cats meowing behind a fat cook!!
Merlin hid behind a stove and meowed softly…
“Meow, meow…” He began, “My mates, it’s me, come here!! I came to rescue, Marie Antoinette sent me”
Without making a noise, the kittens began to sneak one by one towards Merlin.
“Come, come, hide here, under this table… I’ll tell the rescue team to come and help” Ordered Merlin and sneaked out of the kitchen.
He approached a window and whistled to Maurice, who was attentively looking forward to a signal.
Maurice winked his eye and a full army of cats charged at full race towards the kitchen window, climbed the walls and entered the kitchen jumping on top of the plates, meowing like crazy cats. There was foo all over the place flying in the air! The cooks and maids were shouting and in no time the whole place turned into a hell!
In the middle of such a huge mess, Merlin, Maurice and the Turkish kittens escaped from Versailles in broad daylight!
